In an interview for the Polish business daily Puls Biznesu, CD Projekt and Red Studio owners Michal Kicinski and Marcin Iwicki calimed that they plan a worldwide simulations launch for their latest game, The Witcher.
Based on the fantasy novels by Polsih writer Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher is advertised as an action-RPG game with cutting-edge graphics that are to rival the visuals from Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
„We want to have 750 thousand copies at launch. The game will simultaneously go to stores in Japan, the US, the EU and Russia. We’re working on 11 localized versions. Our goal is to sell 1 million copies in the first year” – said Kicinski.
Kicinski’s statement might mean that The Witcher will be further delayed. Currently it’s slated for an early 2007 release, though it’s very unlikely that the date will be kept. Both Kicinski and Iwinski refrained to comment exactly when the game will appear in stores, hinting only that it will happen this year.
Red Studio recently inked a publishing agreement with Atari. Its parent company CD Projekt is a leading publisher on the polish market. The Witcher is Red Studio’s first project to date.
